Accelerating ESL/FL Student Achievement in Basic Speaking, Reading, & Writing Skills

A practical in-depth seminar for ESL Teachers, Aides, Title I, Title 3 Staff, Coordinators, Resource Teachers, Administrators, Foreign Language Teachers and Administrators, K-12, Language Development Specialists.

This intensive, interactive workshop shows how to go beyond the basics and effectively develop ORAL LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY using Total Physical Response ( TPR) and The Natural Approach.

It will review the early transition from Listening to Speaking, then to Reading and Writing. The Oral Language Stages that provide the basis for Balanced Literacy will be MODELED.. It will demonstrate how to teach Listening and Speaking skills effectively.

Participants will learn how to use these outstanding approaches and research- based techniques to teach the present tense, past tense, future tense, present progressive tense, direct and indirect objects, etc...They will learn the importance of relating reading and writing to experience and speech, and how and when to correctly incorporate phonics so that their students experience a truly Balanced Reading program. When and how to teach Grammar will also be included.

Participants will experience as well analyze the methods. They will. leave with a new perspective and a Resource Handbook with valuable new ideas that can be used the next day.

Review the Listening Stages...Transition to Speaking.
To Go Beyond Basic Skills Teaching Guided Speaking. How to teach speaking skills in an effective, natural pattern that students will enjoy learning and better retain.
Develop Oral Language Develop oral language proficiency in students who have already had the introductory listening stages.
Level questions so as to receive 1-2 word responses, phrase responses, full sentence responses. ..Answers, methods, and models.
T.P.R./Natural Approach Berty will MODEL how to use these outstanding , RESEARCH-BASED approaches to teach the present tense, past tense, present progressive tense, future tense, direct and indirect objects, TPR Sequence Stories and when and how to teach Grammar.
Language Experience Use language experience techniques effectively with ESL and Foreign Language Students.
Appropriate Testing The Listening Stage (Level I) & the Speaking Stages (Level II)
Phonics Phonics–When to incorporate phonics for Balanced Reading.
Reading and Writing ESL and Foreign Language students can make real growth in reading and writing. Suggestions for sequencing, methods, and materials.
Relating reading and writing to experience and speech.
